Restless as always

Liverpool lose against Manchester United, again…

Posted by: Neena on: October 23, 2006

As usual, Liverpool’s league form hasn’t been going quite so well, this season. Though, I haven’t been following the season fairly closely, but their mid-table position would indicate that their title aspirations are taking a beating.

Its been a problem over the years with Liverpool. They don’t seem  motivated enough when it comes to the league. They just seem absolutely uninspired, be it against any team.

Quite possibly, the very reason of me being a Liverpool fan, is that Liverpool always seem to put in their best effort, even if that effort might go in vain. Yesterday, that was missing. They needed to win badly, they knew losing the match would destroy their title chances this season, and so there was a motivating factor. But regardless of such consequences, Liverpool were hardly playing as a team yesterday.  They had chances and all they did was squander them. Its not like Manchester United did not play well. They did. Its a question of Liverpool not playing at the level they ought to.

Really, is this the question of the umpteen team changes that Mr Benitez seems to be indulging in? Or the team formation, which I think is going horribly wrong. The football experts might know them better, and I am hardly familiar with the technicalities of the game. But for once, Gerrard seems to unhappy. He has yet to score, which is an absolute surprise, given his prolific form last season.

There lies another core problem. Liverpool tend to depend on a single player to such extent, that without him they just can’t score goals. It happened when Michael Owen used to play, and now the situation is quite similar with Gerrard. Yes, the media tends to blow it out of proportion, but to some extent this is true. It is a problem, and they need to sort it out.

Just read somewhere that Liverpool haven’t scored an away goal since August, and they have yet to score an away goal from open play this season. Those are worrying signs, and Liverpool do need to get their act together.

I’ve been a loyal Liverpool fan for nearly 10 years now, and no performance has left me that deflated before. Not even the Derby game earlier this season… or even the Benfica loss last year. Or that game at Old Toilet where Carra scored two own goals.

I’m just happy that I can now say i’ve heard of / made contact with a female football fan. The Liverpool bit is a bonus. When will Rafa learn to put Stevie in the middle? From the get go?

I have been a liverpool fan since 2001. So, quite a new addition.

I am not really down, but it seems that at every big match in the league, Liverpool seem kind of dispassionate. They seem to play better in knockout competitions. All every liverpool fan wants is that they play to their level. It is the satisfaction to us that they gave their best effort, that matters. Win/Loss doesn’t count all the time.

I do think that Benitez is  strategically making mistakes and it is costing Liverpool dear. He is making Gerrard play at an awful position. And whats more worrying is that the captain and the manager may not be on the same page.

And the female football fan thing, yeah, they are quite an endangered species. ;) I sincerely hope there are others like me. Or may be I am the one who can start a new tradition. Now thats wishful thinking!

Hiya… thanks for the comment! I am flabbergasted… i went and renewed my cable tv subscription a couple of days ago so that i could watch the game against villa tonight, and avoid another hotel-skipping fiasco. Naturally, Sod’s Law has come to the fore, and I’m looking at dots on the TV screen, and my blood pressure is rising…. excuse me, I have a cable operator to go attend to!

(btw, Benitez is still class… remember, Gerrard was the dog’s bollocks last season, and he was playing on the right wing. Left wing… not so sure…)

Ah! But you see, the Reds never had a chance against us Red Devils. I mean, anyone who saw us absolutely DEMOLISH and ANNIHILATE Bolton would know just why Liverpuddle were so meek…they had no chance…and they knew it.

As for Gerrard, he was a total idiot to have stayed at ‘puddle. And anyway, why were people not screaming for him to be in the centre last year when he was on the right? Simple, coz he was playing well! Play as badly as he and Fat Lump-lard play and you’d suck in any position!

Anyway, nice to see Arseh*le draw and ManU win over the weekend…sad about ‘puddle and Chav$ki, but hey, who am I kidding? With no midfield for MUFC, it’s gonna be the oil-grabbin’ criminal whose team will win overall :( . ‘puddle for 7th place I would say…if they get lucky that is of course…

Nope, Liverpool just never showed up in the game. From a neutral point of view, it wasn’t a closed context between the two teams. I donot agree with the point that Manchester United never let Liverpool play. It was clear from the first minute that Liverpool were disorganized, and it was evident with their passing and the opportunities which they failed to capitalise on.

As for Chelsea, I just can’t bear to see the sight of Roman Abramovich standing and clapping in those big league matches where Chelsea is involved. Makes me switch off the telly. :X

And thank for you, for the prediction for Liverpool. We fans like to have a more optimistic viewpoint. ;)

dearie dearie me… maybe you can talk about them being resurgent now! And I’m not one to stick my neck out,. but Liverpool will finish top 3. For sure.
